Dozer Days Recap

This year DirtLogic was a sponsor of Vancouver, Washington's Dozer Days. This unprecedented event gives the excavation industry a chance to host our community for a day of incredible fun while increasing appreciation and admiration for the important work we do. The event was located at Rinker Quarry and folks were transported in an immense articulated hauler up to the main attractions that included rides on every sort of excavation equipment. Dozer Days with all its supporters and volunteers gave more than 15,000 people an experience that only Disney Land could rival. We include the same high quality service and extensive checks and balances with our Mass Grade Model service but you only pay for the exact information you need and use. Turnaround time is 1-3 days.

Fine Grade GPS Model

Our Fine Grade GPS Model includes all of the Mass Grade Model information PLUS a surface model with tolerance of .10 of a foot, cut fill volumes, and cut fill grid map. Includes every curb point, all high/low points and centerline alignments built using centerline profiles in addition to contours. Our Fine Grade Model includes the ultra high accuracy GPS model services we've been providing for the last several years. Turnaround time is 5-10 days.

It's hard to believe, but here we are almost at the end of the first quarter of 2008. We have a lot to tell you about this month. Read on for some good news about the Northwest construction industry's forecast, some interesting product developments to help heavy equipment users meet EPA regulations, and an exciting update about one of our own - Aimee Gebarowski!

Construction boom expected to continue for Pacific Northwest in 2008:

Even with talk of an impending recession, the construction boom seems to be continuing within the Northwest. According to Carl Molesworth from Reed Construction data, the heavy construction industry is expected to do well in 2008.

Molesworth states, "The monthly Contract Awards Summary compiled by Pacific Builder & Engineer magazine reported that the year-to-date volume of publicly reported nonresidential construction contract awards through November 2007 was running 6% ahead of 2006's record-setting pace."

Molesworth adds, "Washington had another big year in 2007 and should have more work on the way in 2008. In November 2007, PB&E's Contract Awards Summary showed the state running 32-percent ahead of 2006, year to date by dollar volume, and up 9 percent in the number of contracts awarded.

Public construction in Oregon was a mixed bag in 2007, as PB&E's Contract Awards Summary showed the dollar volume of new projects dropping 30 percent but the number of projects rose by 11 percent. That suggests the market remained active but lacked new mega-projects to boost the contract value total. The state's economy is still growing, and rents for commercial real estate in the Portland area are expected to rise by 6 percent to 8 percent in 2008, suggesting the solid market for nonresidential building construction should continue."

Polluting clouds of diesel smoke may soon be a thing of the past.

One of our clients, Mark Scoccolo, was featured recently on local Washington television. His company, SCI Infrastructure and its fleet of heavy equipment are being used as a test case for a new product that may reduce emissions and help heavy equipment users comply with ever-tightening EPA regulations. The product, created by Emissions Technology of Arizona, contains platinum dissolved in a liquid which is injected into the fuel, making the combustion more effective and burning fuel more efficiently. The best part of this innovation is its relatively low cost.

DirtLogic's African Connection.

It's been almost five years since Aimee came to work for DirtLogic as the marketing/public relations (aka: official supplier of cigars at golf tourneys)/business development/token female.

Though she will continue to function in most of her roles at DirtLogic Aimee is now also the primary fundraiser for a project called, Hope Village Uganda, which is building an orphanage, school and community medical clinic in Uganda, Africa. What's exciting is that already the project has 25 + acres on Lake Victoria and the medical clinic is paid for with construction set to begin in a couple months. Aimee is working in conjunction with a proven team of professionals, missionaries and highly respected Ugandan nationals.

This effort is in response to the more than 2.1 million Ugandan orphans, most of whose parents were devastated by HIV/AIDS. For these children, Hope Village may be their only chance to truly live, learn, and explore the possibilities of life.

Although DirtLogic is an advocate of improving our own communities, we've realized that without outside help many of these orphans actually won't make it. Statistics tell us that every five seconds a child dies in Africa. This is really hard to grasp as it is so far from our reality. Children born into less than ideal circumstances in the U.S. always have access to help and intervention. That's why Aimee and Matt feel so convicted to try and do something.

We know that for some of us this may not be the best timing from a financial stand point, but sometimes when you feel least like giving that is the very time to do so. A HOLIDAY NOTE FROM OUR CEO, MATTHEW GEBAROWSKI.

"Once when my wife, Aimee, and I were dinner guests in the home of friends we observed an interesting dinner time tradition. Before eating we went around the table and everyone had to say at least one thing they were grateful for. It was so touching to hear everyone counting their blessings that, being the tough guy that I am, I started to cryÖ just kiddingÖwell, maybe my eyes did get a little misty but, it could have just been the salad onions.

Anyway, the point is that it reminded me that it's important to take a moment to give thanks. So on that note and in the spirit of the Thanksgiving holiday I've decided to collect some sentiments from me and the DirtLogic team on what we really appreciate about all of you. Grab your hankies folks and remember it takes a strong man to cry and an even stronger man to laugh at him."
